Typically when we start a bathroom renovation we have one tile that we dream of including in our design. Sometimes it is a really special or unique accent tile and sometimes it is as simple as knowing that you want white subway tile. Either way, take that dream tile and use it as the starting point for the other tile you will choose for your bathroom design. Taking your first (must have) choice as a starting point, use it to make the decisions for the other tiles you will include in your design. If your must have is a really unique color or pattern and is going to be the focal point of your design, pull more subtle colors from it to use in your accent tiles. If however your first choice is really plain (like a white subway tile) you may want to add an element of interest with a colorful accent tile or even a smaller scale white penny tile to change it up and add interest.
The final selection of your bathroom's color palette will depend not just on the color of your tub or the tone of your tile, but also on the overall look you want to achieve. A bathroom that incorporates white marble, white porcelain and pale wood will have an entirely different look with soft green walls than with walls of metallic blue. Ask yourself: Do I want my bathroom to be relaxing or energizing? Trendy or timeless? Whatever mood you're after, the process of choosing a color will feel less overwhelming if you take it step by step. "First," says Joan Osburn, of Osburn Design in San Francisco, "pick all the colors that you like, no holds barred. Then narrow them down to two or three options. Look at them in different lights and at different times of day.
Bathroom furniture and plumbing fixtures and fittings are the main event in the bathroom, and therefore it's essential to get these right from the word ‘go'. Planning the perfect superyacht bathroom, if you can dream it, you can create it. First of all, in order to realise the particular style and feel of that dream bathroom, it's a good idea to research the ideas displayed across the brochures and showrooms of the owner's favourite interior designers, as well as taking a look at the bathrooms installed in other luxury homes and superyachts. Following this, create a priority list to ensure the essential bathroom furniture and accessories are not forgotten. Budget. It's important when redesigning anything to create a budget and stick to it: Bathrooms and spas can be inexpensive and yet still have the luxury look and feel about them. The budget will need to be realistic, as there is no point in setting a £1,000 limit when the bathtub itself costs £999.
