He recommends haunting estate and garage sales for bathroom art. "That's where you find that weird art like those little oils Aunt Martha painted. Think, 'Oh my gosh, there's a clown with a knife in his hand! Let's buy that and put it in the bathroom.' It's nice to see something to make you giggle in the morning." Of course, even the zaniest art should have at least one element that picks up other colors in the room, says LaDonna. And what should those colors be? Often, you're limited by the hard-and-fast items in the room, like the '60s style pastel tiles, says LaDonna. "When you add other colors, they'll have to complement, but the right selection can update the design and downplay the colors you don't like." Today's popular chocolate-brown accessories, from towel racks to curtains, for example, give old-style pastels a fresh look, says LaDonna.
A good way to give your cabinets and vanities some character is by using trendy or unique materials. Making sure the materials align with the functionality and design of your remodel is important, but getting creative in this area can make a lasting impression. Don't let the process of picking your bathroom cabinets and vanities overwhelm you. Allow the design and function of your room to drive your decision. With a little style, creativity and practical thinking, choosing your bathroom cabinets and vanities can be a breeze. Different styles of bathroom furniture: The furniture in a minimalistic bathroom should be of a light color palette, because minimalistic décor usually goes with softer shades like pastels, ivory, grey and whites. The idea behind minimalism is to create a subdued feeling in the room and the bathroom furniture should also be subdued and soft. White gloss furniture will be ideal for a minimalistic bathroom. In this way with a little bit of thoughtfulness, you can choose the right kind of bathroom furniture to create a bathroom that reflects your personality and artful taste.
Typically when we start a bathroom renovation we have one tile that we dream of including in our design. Sometimes it is a really special or unique accent tile and sometimes it is as simple as knowing that you want white subway tile. Either way, take that dream tile and use it as the starting point for the other tile you will choose for your bathroom design. Taking your first (must have) choice as a starting point, use it to make the decisions for the other tiles you will include in your design. If your must have is a really unique color or pattern and is going to be the focal point of your design, pull more subtle colors from it to use in your accent tiles. If however your first choice is really plain (like a white subway tile) you may want to add an element of interest with a colorful accent tile or even a smaller scale white penny tile to change it up and add interest.
